How Do I Know If My PC Is Infected With Gumblar?

The headline of this post may sound like a joke but it’s far from being one. Gumblar is the latest in serious threats to hit the internet, beginning in March 2009, originating from a chinese domain gumblar.cn. Attackers then changed the domain to martuz.cn. gumblar-vid-largeBoth have apparently been shut down but the malicious script is out there being virally replicated on the web and on a network of host PCs. Apparently 37% of malware detected by Scansafe in the first two weeks of may was resulting from Gumblar. The basic risk with this infection is that it will intercept your web traffic and snatch your personal details to upload to an unknown server. Now I don’t beleive in getting into the fear based stuff surrounding things like this but I think a little precaution is appropriate.

I asked myself “how would I know if my PC was infected with Gumblar?”. I did a little research on the web and found a little procedure you can implement to give you peace of mind. Click here or on the image on the left to watch a video outlining what to do to make sure your PC isn’t infected by Gumblar.

It involves downloading a simple piece of free software and using this to check a file in the Windows system which is affected by Gumblar. If this particular file passes the test you are ok.

The best way of course to have real peace of mind is to make sure you have a top notch firewall and antivirus. As most of my readers know already I swear by Kaspersky Internet Security as do many of my friends who are advanced computer geeks! The brilliant thing about Kaspersky is that it won’t let any suspicious communication through from your PC to the internet without telling you of the attempt.
