Viki told me that she had bought a return ticket to the UK but knew she would not return to Madrid again. She also told me how much the ticket cost.

The following day I phoned Viki and told her what had happened. There was a moment’s silence on the phone followed by Viki’s shocked sounding voice telling me that I had got everything right. I had described her home perfectly and Juan the baker did in fact exist. Madrid had its most violent thunderstorm on that night and the information I had about Viki’s plane ticket was correct.
